At some point, you’re going to need help with a plumbing job, and knowing how to hire a plumber can help keep the stress to a minimum. In this blog, McLay Services, Inc. discusses the basics of hiring a plumber.
What Do Plumbers Do?
Plumbers are trained to fix just about anything related to your household plumbing. Leaks may be commonplace, but there are many things that could be causing them. It’s up to the plumber to determine the cause, come up with a solution and implement it in the shortest amount of time possible. Time is an important factor when it comes to plumbing repairs, as they usually require turning off the water mains.
While most plumbers are trained to have more or less the same skill set, some may specialize in certain areas of plumbing, such as commercial plumbing, gas line installation and repair or the installation of traditional and tankless water heaters. One of the benefits of working with a plumbing company, as opposed to looking up individual handymen, is that a specialist can be deployed for specific jobs.Hiring a Plumber
The State of California requires plumbers to have a licence issued by the California Contractors State License Board. A license is your assurance of a plumber’s legitimacy, skills and knowledge of local and international building codes pertaining to plumbing. A good plumber or plumbing company will have their work warrantied or guaranteed, so make a point to ask about this in case of errors during the installation or repair. Also, avoid plumbers who ask for full payment upfront. A reputable plumber will ask for a down payment followed by one or more incremental payments, with the final payment paid upon completion.
It also helps to look for customer feedback. One of the best ways to do this is by asking the plumber for references. Ask these past customers how the plumber handled the job. Were they courteous and on time? Did they explain the cause of the problem and how it was fixed? Was the job completed to their satisfaction? Will they hire the same plumber again? The answer to that last question says a lot: after all, you probably wouldn’t hire the same plumber again if their work was unsatisfactory.Call McLay for Your Plumbing Needs
